There are a handful of pivotal events in life that can be counted as life changing, among them your first job, getting married, and having your first child.

There are others that seem inconsequential at the time, but in retrospect turn out to be life-changing. Joining Primedia—TEN: The Enthusiast Network’s predecessor company—almost 13 years ago was one of them. I’m not going to sugarcoat the truth or glance backward through rose-colored glasses. In those years, it was sometimes a rocky and uncertain road through multiple reorganizations, management changes, office moves, promotions, involuntary reassignments, furloughs, and a bankruptcy.
