THE NEAR FUTURE

Motoring World: How is Maserati India gearing up to introduce its flagship MC20, when is it coming to showrooms, and when are we going to be able to get our hands on it?

Bojan Jankulovski: MC means Maserati Corse and 20 is short for 2020, the year which marks the start of a new era in Maserati’s history, and in which MC20 made its debut. The new super sportscar will be produced at the Viale Ciro Menotti Plant in Modena, where modernisation works are already in progress on the production line, so that the MC20’s advanced electric powertrain can also be accommodated.

The Maserati MC20 is a halo car that ushers in a new era for the brand and a new family design. It is the first model to be powered by a 100 per cent Maserati engine — the V6 Nettuno. The MC20 reestablishes the Maserati presence in the rear mid-engined super sportscar segment and it is the first step for Maserati to return to racing. Response worldwide has been phenomenal and Maserati India is currently accepting orders for the MC20. We forecast deliveries of the first MC20s around February 2022.

MW: Have timelines for launches (both the recently launched Ghibli and the upcoming MC20) been altered to account for the global pandemic?

BJ: There is no alteration of launch plans.

MW: Do you think the pandemic will continue to have an impact on Maserati’s future plans? Is the all-electric version of the MC20 slated to be brought to India as well?
