Collectors draw their passion from many different sources. It is surprising, however, how many are inspired in their early love of motorcycles by a sporting hero. In the case of Malcolm Theron, that hero was Kevin Schwantz aboard his Lucky Strike or Pepsi Suzuki RG500 in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The Collectors Malcolm Theron

His first bike was a TS50ER Suzuki and his love of all things Suzuki stems from that first love affair, helped along the way by the exploits of Schwantz. He can’t say that there was any particular reason why he got into bikes in the first place, just that, once he got on one, that was it; he never looked back.

But the collection only really started in the last five or six years. He’d always had a bike in the garage, but only ever one at a time. After that initial TS, he had a GS400F, GSX750, GS1000G, and so on, only once ever showing disloyalty to the Hamamatsu manufacturer before realising where his heart lay and returning to the fold.

Then, in 2015, one particular event made him sit up and realise that there were many things he hadn’t done, bikes he hadn’t owned but always wanted during his life and that time to own or do them was finite. It was a wake up call and he heeded it with renewed energy and drive. He admits the subsequent activity might have gone a bit overboard but that’s just his nature; all or nothing.
