Every year a business in the South West creates more than 35,000 tonnes of compost through green garden waste that is collected and processed from all over the region.
Coastal Recycling currently works with more than 30 farms across Devon to produce an organic soil conditioner for farmland and fields as an environmentally beneficial alternative to sewage sludge or chemical fertilisers. MORE: http://www.coastaluk.co.uk
Most poultry keepers in Britain were expected to be able to let their birds outside from February 28 while still adopting strict biosecurity measures.
Since December 6 all UK poultry keepers were required to keep their birds housed or under cover to help prevent them coming into contact with wild birds which have been carrying a virulent strain of bird flu.
Although there have been a number of outbreaks of bird flu across the country, the measures were due to be eased in many parts of England, and also in all of Scotland and Wales as we went to press. All poultry keepers were required ‘to carry out a self-assessment of enhanced biosecurity measures’, but with the containment requirement being more relaxed.
