This month we travel far and wide to bring you some magical fishing destinations. The Vaal River for one does not disappoint as it is indeed home to some monster fish. We also rediscover the Gariep Dam in all its splendour during a week-long visit to the area and its wonderful people.
The absolute beauty of nearly undisturbed nature surrounds you and you realise that you are now in God’s country – this is Bhanga Nek, a little gem in our own backyard, just 13 km south of the Kosi Bay mouth.
The Dwesa Nature Reserve Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the Eastern Cape is next on the list. Div de Villiers, a professional environmental officer who has been in conservation for more than 30 years, goes fishing in Dwesa and puts pen to paper to record his experiences and highlight the laws that govern shore fishing in this area.
And last, but certainly not least, escape with us to magical Kenya – home to freshly brewed Maasai coffee, Kericho tea, Tusker beer, the world’s finest marathon athletes and one of the world’s best golf courses. If golf is not your thing you can catch blue marlin or sailfish on a fly far out on the blue waters off the East African coast. This can definitely be rated as the holiday of a lifetime!
