In this issue, we chatted with Hawaii-based artist Gordon Uyehara, who is a magician at translating metal clay into a menagerie of marine creatures and scientific marvels.
We also delved into the portfolios and ideologies of a dozen metal clay luminaries, who discussed what was the initial allure of the medium, how their connection to it has transformed their work, and why it should be a household word. Metal clay is a fantastic
medium for all concerned: the artist, the shop or gallery owner, and the collector. Metal clay is that conduit for the artists we’ve profiled. As Poland’s Anna Mazoń, our Face Time subject, shared with us, “I had so many ideas inside my brain—not being able
to make them real was like an itching inside my head. When I found out about metal clay, it was magical!” And, wouldn’t you know it? One of her most popular pieces of
jewelry is called “Once Upon a Time.”
