This special issue features Filipino and ASEAN firms that have made it to the World Architecture Festival 2019. Why ASEAN? Because we share cultural, climatic, and geographical similarities and can learn from each other. Not to mention, we belong to an integrated region that will inevitably allow borderless practice. We also feature two Filipino WAF winners, who share their thoughts on design issues, as well as advice on presenting before the live jury and audience. The WAF 2017 winners of Small Project of the Year, Alexander Furunes and Sudarshan Khadka (representing Locsin and Partners) for example, had this to say: “Architectural projects are multifaceted, and to condense this into eight minutes is not easy. However, eight minutes is plenty if the ideas behind the projects reflect the actions taken… Aim for clarity, find your voice, and have the guts to go for it.
