The museum focuses on the technology that was used in ancient Sri Lanka. The galleries in the museum displays objects, features, processes and constructions belonging to the various historical periods in Sri Lanka. The museum was declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Maha Saman Devalaya in Ratnapura is the abode of God Sumana Saman, who is known as a Sri Lankan deity. The annual pageant of the devalaya is held in an elaborate manner from September 9 to 14, 2019 and the Maha Perahera will take place on September 13.
