Gone are the days when military vehicles were mere adaptations of civilian vehicles. The Armado changes that – this is the first time that an ALSV has been designed specifically for military purposes. This 6-tonne vehicle is powered by a 3.2-litre 6-cylinder diesel engine and can do speeds of up to 120kmph on the harshest of terrains. But there’s a lot more to this than what meets the eye. Casually driving up an impossible trail is a regular occurrence from behind the wheel of a Thar, which makes us challenge ourselves to find a crazy new mountain trail every other month. For the cover story of this issue of Engage 4x4 India, we decided to drive down south in search of the highest tea estate in the world, just so we could enjoy some stunning views with a cup of tea in hand. In addition, Tarushi attempts a tight autocross track with the Thar, Ruman finds out what living with a RWD Thar is like and we send our fresh new recruit to the adventure academy for some mandatory training. There’s a lot more than that so buckle up for a wild ride!

In what is possibly our most incredible story yet, we get aboard the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier. We take the Mahindra XUV 700, XUV 300 and Scorpio-N, aboard India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier to drive the first mile of the Indian Navy’s Sham No Varuna 7500km coastal drive. Celebrating the spirit of adventure in the launch issue of Engage 4x4, the official magazine of the Mahindra Thar.

Legendary rally driver and off-roader Hari Singh takes us on a epic drive through the most remote corners of Arunachal. The Thar goes dune-bashing at its namesake. We go in search of the snows in the Himalayas. Down South we (left hand) drive the great-great-grandfather of the Thar. Our behind the scenes access kicks off at the Mahindra Design Studio where head of design Kripa Ananthan gives us an all-access tour. We then sit down with the lead designers to document the story of how the new Thar came to life.

We celebrate the spirit of adventure and engage 4x4 in the most remote nooks of India, from snow-capped Himalayas to virgin corners of Arunachal, the Thar desert and jungles of the South. Great escapes, cross country expeditions, iconic drives across borders, you’ll find it all here. And we will tell you how to get lost. 

The content mix includes tutorials on 4x4 equipment, how to drive off-road, mods, accessories and personalisation. You will find plenty of black & white imagery as we trace the evolution of the iconic 4x4 over the decades with in-depth stories penned by the most knowledgeable historians. Every issue we drive classic 4x4s that shaped the movement in India. And we feature the restorers at the forefront of keeping these classics road, and mud!, worthy.
