Welcome to the latest issue of

Halifax states that new homeowners
need just over a quarter of their takehome
pay to cover loans, the lowest
proportion of their disposable earning
since 1997. Halifax housing economist
Martin Ellis said: “Reduced mortgage
rates have led to a significant
improvement in housing affordability
for those able to fund the necessary
deposit to enter the market over the
past five years.”
The price of new homes has risen by
5.9% during the last 12 months
according to the latest data from the
Office of National Statistics (ONS).
