In this edition, ArtPremium takes you on a visual journey into the contemporary art life in Africa and its diaspora. Conscientious of the burgeoning worldwide popularity of contemporary African art, international cultural institutions such as Guggenheim Bilbao and New York and many alike bring us exhibitions on the diversity of the region’s artistic creation.

We talk to Touria El Glaoui, Founder and Director of 1:54, the only contemporary African art fair. We take you deeper into the continent and all its compelling projects. In Cape Town, South Africa, Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) has announced to open in 2017. We are reminded of Africa’s vast resources by the numerous foundations dedicated to the education and preservation of cultural legacy on the African soil. We cannot ignore André Magnin’s significant role in pioneering the Western understanding of contemporary art in Africa. The portfolio on 22 artists, amongst which are El Anatsui, Julie Mehretu, Peju Alatise, William Kentridge, Omar Victor Diop, represents our subjective selection bearing witness to the diversity of artistic narratives in the continent. Giles Peppiatt, the specialist of Modern and Contemporary African Art at Bonhams London, explains the actualities and the potential of this market. To further our approach, we choose to include articles on major events and institutions that are representative of the rising presence we see in the contemporary market.

For our new section We Believe In, dedicated to a selection of promising artists, we present, in this edition, four international artists to watch, such as Elodie Abergel, Marcus Lyon, Soo Sunny Park and Yao Lu. We take on an in-depth study on the acclaimed artist Olafur Eliasson and his philosophy. ArtPremium looks at the French capital and its buzzling scene with a profile on the cooperative creative space, Le 100ecs and the annual art fair, Art Paris, which is gaining accolade.
