The Youth Climate Summit -- the first time the UN Secretary General has convened on the sidelines of UN Climate Summit for young people -- aimed to give voice to the demands of young people to take far swifter action to reduce the emissions that, without action, are on track to reverse the development gains of the recent decades that have improved the lives of millions of people. The summit opened a dialogue between youth and decision makers, putting young people in the driving seat with voice and agency to realize their potential and the change they are persisting towards climate action. The United Nations Secretariat has adopted a new 10-year Climate Action Plan aimed at transforming its operations to achieve a 45 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and sourcing 80 percent of electricity from renewable energy by 2030. The Plan was adopted just ahead of the UN Climate Summit to help increase global ambition and vastly increase action to limit climate change. Successes of all these plans depend on how and to what extent the governments fulfill their pledges on climate Change.
