Dear Visitor,

A Happy and Peaceful New Year to you! Thank you for selecting Sri Lanka as your travel destination at the start of the year- you will not be disappointed. It is the peak of the tourist season when the island is at its best, visually and spiritually, soon after Christmas and heralding two Buddhist and Tamil festivals.

A ‘Whale’ of a time awaits you - a study of whale sightings around the island which you may love to experience. If you happen to be in Colombo on 9th, 10th or 11th January you may witness the Kelaniya Duruthu Perahera, a grand procession of drummers, dancers and dressed-up elephants, held by night, around the environs of the historic Kelaniya Buddhist temple very close to Colombo. The Tamil population celebrate ‘Thai Pongal’ festival, to pay homage to the Sun God by offering the first harvest of rice, boiled with milk, raisins and jiggery . Whilst amidst the ancient cities, a short de-tour will take you to the unique woodland at Dambulla- NIF- Sam Popham Arboretum. At Koggala on the south coast lies the ancestral home of eminent writer Martin Wickremasinghe, now a Folk Museum. Pete Martin shares his cycling experience in Sri Lanka, an interesting read. Savour the ultimate beachfront experience at Coral Rock By Bansai, promoting Japanese elegance with Srilankan charm.

Enjoy, spread the word!
