Talk about local music, and there are a handful of well-known names that come to mind: ShiGGa Shay, The Sam Willows and Gentle Bones, just to name a few. Them aside however, there are others in a small but talented pool of emerging artistes who are just one hit away from making it big. Get to know them before they take over the charts.
Disco Hue
There’s something about the technicolour, retro vibes of synthpop quartet Disco Hue that indicates their tunes will most definitely be instant earworms. Made up of lead singer Sherlyn Leo, keyboardist and vocalist Auzaie Zie, guitarist Rush Ang and drummer Billy Chua, the band has been steadily building their ’80s and ’90s-inspired discography up till the release of their first album The Yearbook – a nostalgic love letter to the iconic era.
Evanturetime
It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that Evan Low (better known as Evanturetime) is a composing wunderkind. He has made music for global brands such as adidas and eBay, international artistes like David Foster, as well as bumped up the melodies of local heavyweights Nathan Hartono and Linying. Currently the music director of singer-songwriter iNCH and cofounder of burgeoning production house Zendyll Records, the producer is often found tinkering away at his signature collaborative work that unites pop and electronic into a unique, masterful sound.
