At a joint policing committee meeting in Dublin yesterday, politicians were told the incident, which resulted in the arrests of over a dozen people, could have resulted in tragedy.
Assistant Garda Commissioner for Dublin Angela Willis said: "Many people might have opinions about how that incident was responded to, but we succeeded in protecting life and property.
