GP Roger Henderson has shared tips on how to escape itchy eyes and runny noses.
And key culprits that make the ordeal worse are folks' soft toys.
They already harbour dust and when that is mixed with pollen it creates a perfect storm.
Dr Henderson suggests cuddlies should be put in isolation - damped down with a wet cloth until pollen levels drop.
He said: "Things like stuffed animals, you can't dust them.
"But you can dampen them. You should do it with a wet cloth to help with the trapped pollen." Dr Henderson, 63, a GP from Whitehaven, Cumbria, said even those without teddies can ease their suffering by dusting down their homes with wet cloths.
He added: "What a pollen bomb will do is trigger people with mild hay fever.
"This means they get symptoms they don't normally get because of the intense exposure.
"Avoid hay fever by staying inside when the pollen is high."
