THERE were chaotic scenes at airports across the UK last night as Border Force passport E-gates reportedly failed.
Long queues formed at Manchester and Heathrow, and it was also claimed Stansted in London had similar issues.
One passenger wrote on X: "Computer outage at Heathrow border control. A few thousand people in line and not a single person at Heathrow is able to figure out a solution." Another posted: "Border control E-gates not working at Stansted due to computer problem.
Another warm welcome to the UK at a broken airport." A Heathrow spokesperson said: "Border Force is currently experiencing a nationwide issue which is impacting passengers being processed through the border.
"Our teams are supporting Border Force with their contingency plans to help resolve the problem as quickly as possible and are on hand to provide passenger welfare. We apologise for any impact to passenger journeys." Representatives of Manchester Airport and Gatwick both confirmed they were aware of the issue.
Over 270 E-gates were introduced at 15 air and rail ports in the UK to speed up entry.
