POLICE are looking into claims that a Tory MP misused campaign funds to pay "bad people".
Mark Menzies, of Ardrossan in Ayrshire, is said to have called a former campaign manager at 3.15am claiming he was locked in a flat and needed &pound;5000 as a matter of "life and death".
The sum, which rose to &pound;6500, was reportedly paid by his office manager from her personal&nbsp;account and then reimbursed from party funds.
Last night, Lancashire Police said: "We have received a letter detailing concerns around this matter and we are reviewing the information in more detail."
Labour Party chairwoman Anneliese Dodds had asked the&nbsp;force to investigate the December incident.
Katie Fieldhouse, the party worker Menzies called, claimed the Tories had received legal advice that allegations against him amounted to fraud but officials decided not to inform the police because it was donors' money.
Fieldhouse, 78, urged Menzies&nbsp;to stand down, adding: "If he falls on his sword... go away and start afresh. That's what I would like to happen."
The party suspended Menzies, MP for Fylde, Lancashire, after the allegations became public.&nbsp;Menzies disputes the allegations and claims to have complied with all the rules for declarations.
