The year is 1980. The place is Freetown, Sierra Leone, where devotees from far and wide have gathered for a three-day Geeta conference of spiritual singing and talks. Twelve-year-old local Nisha Shivdasani steps on stage for the very first time and leaves the audience spellbound with her enchanting voice and her mastery over Sindhi bhajans. Cut to present day. The year is 2024, and Nisha is an accomplished devotional singer, music composer and lyricist, with numerous albums and songs to her name, as she continues to enthral devotees with stage performances across countries and continents.
Today, you’re just as likely to hear Nisha on music streaming apps and radio stations as you are to hear her on stage - her soulful voice is just about everywhere! She’s worked on a host of albums in her almost four-decade-long career, with some popular ones being Sab Teri Parchaeen…Hey Sai, Sai Arzoo and Jo Maange Thakur, besides performing at music festivals and auspicious events, in temples, cultural centres and gurukuls in various parts of India, Africa, East Asia, Europe and USA.
