The Complete Beginner's Guide To Space

But what exactly is space?

Now, the five-letter word is something so big, something beyond our imagination, and something worth knowing about.

Space is the shorter version of the name, outer space. It expands beyond our solar system and includes celestial bodies and an atmosphere and is a vacuum between celestial bodies. It contains the stars, the planets, the galaxies, and other objects like neutrinos, dust, cosmic rays, etc.

You would be amazed to learn some facts about space. We often say that the universe is listening, but in reality, when you are in outer space, the universe, the sound does not travel as the molecules to transmit sound are not there. It is not exactly empty, but the quantity is not enough. There are regions in space that are less crowded than the other regions; the crowded regions have galaxies, star system, and planets.

Outer space starts at the Kármán line, a hundred kilometres above sea level, an imaginary boundary scientists and astronomers use. When one passes this line, one would see the blue sky disappearing and the black colour taking over. The distance is measured in "light years," yet no one knows the exact size of the universe as its size is never stable, and it continues to expand, and it could be even more significant than what we think it actually is.

Many theories describe how space was created, and one such and one of the first and most believed theories is the Big Bang Theory. According to this theory, around 13.8 billion years ago, this enchanting body was created.

Most entities in space are said to be made of plasma, different from solid, liquid, and gas. The Sun, the stars, and other objects are made of plasma. Plasma is supercharged and made of ions and electrons.
