JAKARTA - By the end of 2025, Indonesia will have a food centre in the capital city modelled after Singapore's Lau Pa Sat, complete with dozens of stalls offering various regional delicacies as well as an openair Satay Street.

Property developer Agung Sedayu Group will be constructing the food centre, complete with signature colonial-themed architecture and orange roofing, in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area.

The PIK township, more than eight times the size of Sentosa, is located in northern Jakarta, about an hour's drive from the city centre.

Agung Sedayu Group chief executive Steven Kusumo, who grew up in Singapore, told The Sunday Times on March 15 that the food centre will allow his fellow countrymen to experience dining at such a unique and special location locally.

"We're trying to bring the world to Indonesia. So instead of people having to travel around, we are trying to build whatever we find works from outside into Indonesia, for residents and for visitors," he said.

While it is not yet known what the seating capacity for the food centre will be, Mr Steven said it will have more than 50 stalls.
