Doyen of Odia cinema Uttam Mohanty cremated with state honors

The mortal remains of veteran actor Uttam Mohanty, a popular face of Odia movies who has a series of commercial hits in the eighties and nineties under his belt were consigned to flames here on Friday.
He passed away at a private hospital in New Delhi on Thursday, triggering shockwaves across the state.
His last rites were performed with full state honors as a mark of tribute to the late actor's contribution to Odia film industry at the Satya Nagar crematorium here. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced full State honors for the late actor's last rites as a mark of late actor's immense contribution to Odia film industry.
Mohanty, a native of Mayurbhanj district, was 66. A veteran in the Odia movie industry, he had a successful career of acting in over 166 movies and reigned the movie industry for over two decades. He also essayed lead roles in 30 Bengali movies besides "Naya Zagar", a Hindi film.
