Diarrhea situation improves in Jajpur, cases surface in 3 other districts

The diarrhea outbreak in Odisha's Jajpur district, which affected thousands and included at least 11 confirmed cases of cholera, is showing signs of improvement, according to government officials.

However, the waterborne disease has now spread to parts of Cuttack, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, and Dhenkanal districts.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has placed all health facilities in the affected districts on high alert.

He said urgent steps are being taken to disinfect drinking water sources, enforce a ban on roadside food vending, and conduct strict food safety inspections.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, accompanied by senior state officials and a central health team, visited the affected areas of Jajpur and Keonjhar districts to assess the situation.

Dr. Mahaling interacted with residents and patients in hospitals and reviewed ongoing measures.

Health officials claimed on Sunday that the situation has improved significantly.

No new diarrhea-related deaths were reported today.

Out of 1,771 infected individuals, 1,508 have recovered and 258 remain under treatment.
