Probe launched following complaint filed by the father of survivors
A 72-year-old man from Perinad has been sentenced to three life terms and 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting his two teenage granddaughters, one of whom later died by suicide. Kottarakkara Fast Track Special Court Judge Anju Meera Birla pronounced the verdict.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 to be given to the mother of the victims. The court directed that the convicted shall remain in prison until his death.
The three life sentences were handed down under various sections of the POCSO Act, with the 10-year sentence for unnatural sex.
