COME winter, smog shrouds idyllic Assam cities, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) hitting unexpected highs in Guwahati.
One of the major contributors to the deteriorating pollution situation is Byrnihat on the outskirts of the Assam capital and bordering Meghalaya.
Byrnihat has two sides, one in Assam's Kamrup while the other falls in Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi districts. On Thursday, the Meghalaya government flagged high pollution levels in Byrnihat, stating it was affecting the air quality in both states.
