CONCERNS OVER DEMOLITION OF OLD BUILDING

- By STAFF REPORTER

MP calls on council to support improvements to hospital site

AN MP has welcomed £10 million of funding for a day case unit at Hinckley Hospital while calling for the council's Liberal Democrat group to support improvements and “not squander this opportunity.”

The new facility is planned for the derelict Cottage Hospital site in Mount Road, but the NHS is being urged to preserve the Victorian frontage of a hospital rather than demolish the building.

GP-turned-MP Dr Luke Evans has spoken out after the leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Stuart Bray, asked the NHS to “reconsider Mount Road hospital plans.”

Coun Bray said he was “deeply disappointed” by plans that would see the century-old building knocked down to make way for a modern day case unit.

In his letter to NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board, he said many residents had contacted him with concerns about the demolition.
