It was one of the wettest Winter Leagues for quite some time with 10 named storms to contend with and most of the annual rainfall already fallen. However, there were some good evenings for tennis and we have managed to get nearly 500 matches played in the six months.
It was the Mixed division that was the most closely contested with it going down to the last games of the season before it was clear which pair would win. A bit like the Premier League this year. The Mixed league had the maximum 12 pairs starting the league.
A win for Fiona Crutchley and Nick Haley over their club compatriots and last year's winners, Alice Wildgoose and Gary Brookes, earlier in the year had given them the advantage they were looking for.
Nick and Fiona duly won their last game of the season to take the mixed title with 17 points to spare.
Third place was also closely contested with only 22 points separating Roanna George and Lawrence Nortier, Alan Mayes and Stephanie D'Haussy and Nicky Slight and Dave Bate.
Ladies A started with 10 pairs and they all finished with Katherine Rowe and Roanna George pleased to win their second title in a row, although they didn't stay undefeated this season as they had one defeat when they lost to Sue Gale and Sue Newberry.
