WHITTS COULD HAVE BEEN BEST IN LEAGUE
CHRIS ERRINGTON
TOO CLOSE TO CALL

STEVEN Schumacher believes Morgan Whittaker would have run Bristol Rovers' 16-goal striker Aaron Collins close for the League One Player of the Season award had he stayed on loan at Plymouth Argyle for the whole season.

The 22-year-old attacker had scored nine goals, and assisted several others, before he was recalled by Championship club Swansea City at the start of January.

There was plenty of speculation at the time that Whittaker would be sold before the end of the transfer window and he was strongly linked to Scottish Premiership side.

Whittaker remained with Swansea, however, and then made just two starts and 13 substitute appearances before the end of their campaign, scoring one goal.

There was a return to Home Park for Whittaker as he watched from the directors' area when Argyle beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 on April 25 and that allowed him the chance to catch up with his former team-mates after the match.
