WET WEATHER LEADS TO 'WATERFALL' ON DEVONPORT STREET
CARL EVE
Flood problem on city steps is cause of concern

A CITY pensioner is regularly left stacking sandbags outside her home, as heavy downpours often turn a flight of steps into a waterfall dubbed the ‘Niagara Falls’ of Devonport.

A friend of the woman, who lives in Belmont Villas in Stoke, said she is fighting a losing battle during every big storm when clogged-up drains and road design issues result in flooding by her home.

David Hoatson said he has alerted the authorities to the issue, claiming that the woman was in need of help and support rather than being continually ignored. In a letter to Plymouth City Council, he said she was now at real risk of serious injury when leaving or arriving at her home during any wet weather because of what he calls a “severely inadequate drainage system”.
