Police officers in Britain could soon be armed with Ghostbusters-style devices that fire electromagnetic rays to shut down the engines of electric bikes being used by criminals.

Police developing 'Ghostbusters' weapons to halt ebike getaways

Gavin Stephens, the chair of the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC), said the weapons were in development and could be just months away from being available, though it was expected to be longer.

He said they could be housed in a backpack reminiscent of the equipment used in the movie Ghostbusters - and used to tackle crime linked to vehicles such as ebikes and scooters.
