Social media in Surat has erupted in controversy after a photo showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Sanjeev Kumar examining a development map of Surat International Airport that appears to differ significantly from the official Surat Airport Master Plan 2035. The image, widely shared online, has sparked concerns about potential misinformation presented to the Prime Minister during his visit to inaugurate the airport's expanded terminal building on December 17th, 2023.
Adding fuel to the fire, an RTI activist who filed a request seeking clarification on which map was presented to PM Modi received a response from the Surat Airport administration stating "the information sought is not specific." This opaque response has only intensified public suspicion, leading many to question the motives behind the alleged discrepancy.
