Rebels give headache to all fronts in TVM corporation

Tensions are mounting in the upcoming Thiruvananthapuram Corporation election as prominent dissidents within the Left Democratic Front prepare to take on their own alliance’s nominees in multiple wards.

The official list of candidates has prompted several local leaders to defy party orders, injecting an element of uncertainty into the council race and raising concerns about the LDF’s internal cohesion.

At the heart of the dissent is the ward of Ulloor, where K Sreekandan, a former bureau chief of a party-aligned daily and longtime committee member, has filed as an independent after being passed over for nomination. He alleges that his ward's candidate was chosen following intervention by the LDF’s state leadership, and insists his contest is driven by principle rather than rebellion.

His move follows a pattern of similar upsets in other locations.
