University starts steps towards the demolition of National Glass Centre

Campaigners looking to save the city's National Glass Centre are concerned about the future of glass making in the city after the centre's owners, the University of Sunderland, have confirmed they have initiated steps toward the demolition of the current building.

The University has stated on a number of occasions that its decision to close the current glass centre is due to spiralling costs of the building.

In the latest development, the University contacted the Save the National Glass Centre Campaign group informing them that they have submitted a pre-application for demolition and have already instructed consultants to carry out surveys.
