"Papi,” it’s great having you back for our third and final instalment of Still in Touch.
Last week we ended our interview when you were telling us about the U23 trip to Venezuela and how Nhlanhla Shabalala saved you from drowning.
Ha, ha, ha, Nhlanhla will remind me about that incident for the rest of my life and the fact that it happened outside the country makes it worse. Even now when I meet him, he says to me, “Ah, Mungomeni, I saved your life — and remember you were out of your country, drowning in a foreign country was not going to be nice,” ha, ha, ha.
Ha, ha, ha, you guys were tight-knit in Steve Komphela’s U23 team and you have a lot of memorable moments from your time with the team.

Adams faces race against time
Jayden Adams' international future hangs in the balance, and the countdown has officially begun. With just one month remaining before Hugo Broos finalises his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, the 24-year-old midfielder finds himself in a position few would have predicted two years ago. Once a rising star of Stellenbosch FC and a standout performer at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, Adams now faces the harsh reality of reduced game time at Mamelodi Sundowns and uncertainty around his Bafana Bafana role. The player who earned his way into Broos' plans through hard work and consistency has slipped into unfamiliar territory at club level, and his national team prospects have dimmed as a result. The Siya crew has been tracking his situation closely, uncovering worrying signs behind the scenes as Adams fights to keep his AFCON dream alive.
