Atherstone get title defence off to a flying start

ANOTHER fantastic evening weather wise to start the Nuneaton Thursday League season and Division One Champs Atherstone got off to their usual strong start with a 123 run victory at Hinckley Amateurs.

Ed Smith with 54, Jack Brady, 58 and Kieran Wordsworth, 51 were instrumental in a total of 187-5.
Ever green Mick Butterworth did snare a couple of victims. The home side were never in the chase and Jack Smith with 3-4 ensured an emphatic win. Newcomers Wolvey started the season well with a comfortable win over Nuneaton. Nuneaton batted first and scored 106-3. Wolvey knocked off the target without losing a wicket.
Ambleside also had a comfortable win at home to Barwell. Tight bowling throughout restricted the visitors to 70-7 from their 16 overs. Matty Alton with 26 and Daniel Baker, 27no ensured there was no drama in the chase and they ended up victors by nine wickets with more than five overs to spare.
