Locals joke street is like EastEnders 'because so many run-down things are happening here'

RESIDENTS on a city-centre street say they have been plagued by constant antisocial behaviour since a skate park opened.

Locals joke street is like EastEnders 'because so many run-down things are happening here'

One couple living on Cliff Road, in the shadow of the Sussex Street skate park, say things have become so bad they have had to install CCTV cameras around their house.

The Sussex Street park opened underneath the tram line on former Broad Marsh land in December 2022.

Part of wider plans to transform the former shopping centre site, it came almost two years after Nottingham College opened its main building in the area.

But despite these efforts to improve the area, nearby residents say the opposite has happened.

In the most recent headache for residents on Cliff Road, hundreds of revellers gathered at the skate park for a unauthorised street party on the night of Thursday, September 18.

The “block party” went on into the early hours, with police saying some people stayed in the area past 2am.

But residents say this is just the tip of the iceberg of problems on the street.

"We joke that it’s the EastEnders of Nottingham because there are so many rundown things happening,” said Lester Vincent, 32.
