Fresh plans to turn disused quarry into housing development after first scheme was rejected

PLANS to redevelop a former Mansfield quarry are back on the table after a previous housing scheme was rejected.
Applicant Lee O'Connor has applied to Mansfield District Council for a second time to use the former Gregory Quarry, off Nottingham Road, for housing.
Mr O'Connor previously applied to the council for permission to build up to 204 homes on the site. However, the council rejected the plan in 2021 due to concerns over viability, biodiversity, and highways. The applicant then appealed against the decision but the appeal was thrown out by the Planning Inspectorate in 2022.
Now Mr O'Connor's third attempt at revamping the site, which could see the land be used for housing and retirement living, is back in the authority's planning portal and up for deliberation.
The quarry stopped operations over a decade ago and the site has sat "vacant and derelict", according to a report to councillors.
