North Devon Journal
|May 01, 2025
AUCTIONEERS at Kivells have reported a 'tremendous trade' and 'spirited bidding' for more than 140 dairy animals at the Spring Challenge Show and Sale.
-
Held at Holsworthy Livestock Market on April 16, purchasers both around the ring and online via MartEye were intent on securing quality additions to their herds.
Topping the sale at £3,800 was the first-placed heifer and reserve champion, 'Winkleigh Rubels Lavender 3', yielding 36kgs on behalf of the Harris family of Winkleigh. The same vendors also sold other fresh calved heifers to £3,650, £3,500, £3,300 and £3,150, with their consignment of seven averaging a magnificent £3,329.
Martin and Di Webber of Drewsteignton sold the second-placed heifer, 'Oxenacres Wheelhouse Olivia', at £3,700; with the Petherick family of Kilkhampton topping at £3,400 for their smart heifer, 'Aldercombe Welcome 136 GP83', yielding 44kgs.
