Blast at ordnance factory in Bhandara kills 8, injures 5

A devastating blast ripped through a unit of the Ordnance Factory in eastern Maharashtra's Bhandara district on Friday morning, claiming eight lives and injuring five others.

The explosion occurred at around 10:40 am in the "LTP section" of the factory located in Jawahar Nagar, officials said.
"Ordnance Factory Bhandara has constituted an inquiry committee to conduct a probe into the incident," the factory said in a statement late in the evening.
The impact of the blast was so powerful that the building where it took place was completely destroyed. Residents of three villages in the vicinity felt the ground shaking, said a local man whose 20-year-old cousin was among the deceased.
