NANCY Rothwell, the President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, is to stand down next year.

University chief plans to stand down in 2024

Dame Nancy has been in the role since 2010, and will leave her post in summer 2024. She was the first woman to lead the university, which is the largest in the UK.

The search is on to replace Dame Nancy, who joined the institution in 1987.

A physiologist, her academic research interests include obesity, and inflammation in brain disease.
