Summer blitz as city centre crime up by one quarter on two years ago

Preston's police received a spot-check from one of their Home Office bosses on what extra funding is doing to crackdown on city centre crime.
Lancashire Constabulary took Minister of State for the Home Office, Lord David Hanson, out on patrol with them in the city.
He joined officers and Supt Scott Boast to understand what difference an extra £1.7m is making in additional patrols badged as the government's 'Safer Streets summer blitz'.
Preston is one of 500 city and town centres to see increased patrols due to rising numbers of muggings, antisocial behaviour reports and record levels of shop theft across the country.
Latest crime figures for Preston city centre show 355 reported crimes in May, the most recent figures, including 115 antisocial behaviour incidents, 71 violent and sexual offences, 65 offences of shoplifting.
