Simple ways to reduce back pain

Much like the noise I make when I get out of a seat that is too low, grumbling about a bad back seems like just another part of getting older. Our spine and torso do so much. Just lifting the kettle involves all sorts of muscle activation and flexibility. We don't realise just how much we use our back until it starts giving us trouble. So how can we look after this all-important part of us?
