How Anaemia Is Slowing Kashmir's Youngest Lives

Many Kashmiri children under five move through their early years with far less energy than they should have.

Anaemia happens when the blood carries too little haemoglobin, the protein that helps red blood cells deliver oxygen to every part of the body.

Oxygen fuels the brain, muscles and organs, so when levels fall, a child feels weak, tires easily and finds it harder to stay active and alert.

Early childhood frames the future of every human being. During the first five years, the brain grows rapidly and builds the foundation for learning, memory and emotional strength.

A consistent supply of iron and other nutrients supports this growth. When meals lack these essentials, development slows and children struggle with concentration and classroom performance.

Teachers may see low participation, while parents notice low stamina. Over time, this gap affects confidence and overall well-being.
