CBI charge sheet against ex-J&K guv in graft case

The Central Bureau of Investigation said on Thursday it has filed a charge sheet against former Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik and seven others in its case related to alleged corruption in the award of a contract worth ₹2,200 crore of civil works of Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project (HEP) to a private company in the Union territory.

Malik was effectively the whistle-blower who pointed to corruption in this contract. He was raided by the agency in February last year.

A CBI official said on Thursday that "the charge sheet has been filed after completion of probe and gathering prosecutable evidence against all the accused persons including Malik".

The federal anti-corruption probe agency had launched a probe in April 2022 in the contract — a 624-megawatt run-of-river project over the Chenab river in Kishtwar district.
