Delay in remission: Principal secy gets SC contempt notice

The Supreme Court on Monday pulled up the Delhi government for its recalcitrance in complying with timelines on disposal of remission pleas of life convicts and sent a strong signal of its displeasure by issuing a contempt notice to the Union territory's principal secretary (home), directing him to appear virtually before it on March 28.
NEW DELHI:
A bench headed by Justice Abhay S Oka said, "We believe unless contempt notice is issued, our orders will not be complied with...Unless contempt notice is issued, you will not do anything."
The observations came in a petition filed by Sukhdev Yadav, one of the life convicts in the 2002 Nitish Katara murder case.
