HC Seeks Action Plan From DGP To Complete Probe Into 79,000 FIRs

The Punjab and Haryana high court has directed the director general of police (DGP), Punjab, to submit an action plan on early completion of probe into 79,000 criminal cases, where investigation is still pending despite lapse of the statutory period for the same.
CHANDIGARH:
The period of completion of investigation in case of an offence for which punishment is up to 10 years is 60 days and for the rest of offences for which prescribed punishment is death or life imprisonment of 10 years or more, the period of filing of challan is 90 days.
The staggering figure of FIRs pending probe had come to the fore during the proceedings of an attempt to murder case reported in Ferozepur for which the FIR was registered on March 28, 2021.
