MUMBAI: A "strong message" needs to be sent to law enforcement agencies to ensure that the citizens are not harassed, the Bombay high court remarked on Tuesday as it imposed a fine of ₹1 lakh on the Enforcement Directorate (ED), noting that the federal agency had launched a probe with "mala fide intentions" into a contractual dispute.
A single judge bench of Justice Milind Jadhav made the strongly-worded observations while hearing a petition filed by developers Rakesh Jain and son Akshay Jain, who challenged an August 8, 2014 order against them by a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court. The high court quashed the order issued against Jains by the special PMLA court on an application filed by ED.
