Smaller sites face closure as cost of living woe hits visitor numbers and spending

MANY small museums fear closure amid the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Nearly two-thirds say they have suffered a decline in visitor numbers.

And most museums reveal those who do come are spending less and reducing the donations they make.

The combination risks disaster for smaller museums with fewer than 100,000 annual visitors.

Three in five of those included in the study by GoDaddy and Kids in Museums admitted there was a risk they may have to close.

The sobering findings come as the future of an award-winning museum in the West Midlands was thrown into doubt last week.
