COVENTRY councillors have backed plans for a secure children's home to be built in Birmingham with the city council one of 14 local authorities behind the scheme.
Cabinet members voted to support the business case for the 20-bed West Midlands Safe Centre which will be funded by the Department for Education (DfE).
Speaking at this week's cabinet meeting, director of children's and education services Sukriti Sen said constructing the centre in Gravelly Hill on the site of a former children's home was the right thing to do. She added that the region had been waiting more than ten years for such a provision.
