FIRST-YEAR REVIEW SHOWS THE SERVICE FAILS TO MAKE PROFIT

- By MAIL REPORTER

THE garden waste charge across Burton and Uttoxeter could be about to increase as council leaders are set to receive a range of proposals on the future of the service.

This follows a review of the first year of charging residents for garden waste removal.

In the first year of the service operating, a total of 26,718 households signed up to the subscription which beats the 21,600 the council expected.

The majority of these, 73 per cent, signed up early to receive a discount.

However, despite the increased number of households joining the scheme, the service is still not cost neutral.
